Men are, statistically, the fucking worst

Over the last ten years I have had a scene in my mind, I have attempted to write it as a short story numerous times, but it never seems to work, I'm sure a good writer could do it but for no reason in particular: I cannot. So, I will describe it in the hopes a writer runs with it and makes it ‘work’.

Picture the scene: A handful of world leaders are gathering, a summit of the most powerful politicians, half a dozen perhaps. They have decided that their jobs, in particular policing the world is getting too difficult, and things are deteriorating rapidly consequently. They decide the best way to do this is to look at the villains of the world and figure out why these atrocities keep happening. Before the meeting they agreed on a list of groups that make the world particularly dangerous and depressing. From terrorists to paedophiles, rapists to murderers, fraudsters to cult leaders. They decide the most intellectual way to look at this through the lenses of forensic psychology, to assess the culprits and see if they could find patterns, base the theories on the facts they uncover and hopefully find a pre-emptive treatment.

Over the next day or so they methodically work their way down the list, comparing upbringing, societal impacts, sociological factors, education amongst a million other aspects. They cannot find a 100% across the board common denominator. “Maybe if we just found a 90% commonality, if we solved 90% that would be incredible”. So, they go back to the top of the list and review the data again. The dialogue is a garbled chorus of statistics “this many serial killers are white” “this many terrorists are Muslim” “this many paedophiles are catholic” “this many rapists are from single mother families”, but nothing is reaching the threshold of 90%, frustration gives way to deflation, the task they set themselves seems impossible. The camera pans over to a 1950s style secretary, hair piled high and comically big cat-eye glasses. She stops typing long enough to pull a cigarette from a mother of pearl compact. She lights it and takes a deep pull, wondering if she should verbalise the elephant in the room, scared she will fling herself out of the high-rise window before lunch if she doesn’t. “Screw it” she thinks, “I'm gonna say it”

Over 90% of all of these are men

Men, statistically, are the fucking worst.

If anyone ever makes this into a short film, PLEASE let me know.

And yet, to this day, when I watch the news, every criminal is identified by their religion, race, social economic background, sexuality. But no one EVER, dares, to say the only thing the majority have in common is their gender. Over 90% Cis Men.

If this is ever read, by anyone, I feel as though this is the first thing I will be corrected on, and I am open to being challenged on this, however IF your argument is similar to:

1. Actually [a percentage over 90] of [a type of abuser] are [a non-white race]

Or

1. Actually, only [a percentage under 90%, yet still way over 50.4%] of [a type of abuser] are men.

it is farting against thunder. Because I guarantee (A) is still male and (B) is still disproportionate to the Male vs Female world population which is at time of writing 50.4% male to 49.6% women.

I understand I have completely discounted the whole spectrum of genders in this chapter, these figures are based solely on an individual's sex that is assigned at birth and again this is something I would like to learn about, I do wonder if there are enough statistics available today to even begin analysing but it would certainly be interesting.
